Film thickness

Byko-test 4500
The byko-test 4500 allows the measurement of a variety of products. No cable exchange or calibration is needed when changing from a ferrous to a non-ferrous substrate. The large LCD display and 10 second retention of the last measured value makes the byko-test 4500 easy to work with.
Compact pocket size instrument
One-handed design for ease of use
Integrated, non-wearing ruby probe tip
Automatic calibration
Display switchable from mils to microns

byko-test 4200
The byko-test 4200 is an affordable and accurate gage for measuring coatings applied to ferrous substrates.

byko-test 8500
The new generation of thickness measurement instru- ments.
Illuminated graphical display and keypad
Easy to use menu
One-hand operation
Flip display by 180 degrees
Multi language support
Enhanced statistics
Modular design with exchangeable probes
Automatic and user specific calibration
Wireless data transfer to PC (optional)
Durable probes with ruby sensors

The byko-test 8500 is the modern successor of byko-test 7500 family. With enhanced functions and improved accuracy. It is an easy to use instrument for a broad variety of applications, state of the art and ready for future needs.

To models are available for different requirements:

Basic version
With all important functions needed to measure and evaluate the thickness of non-metal layers on metal substrates. Basic statistical functions, memory for up to 100 readings, optional wireless connection to a PC and data transfer to Excel.

Premium version
Enhanced statistical functions, Batch measurement with up to 13000 measurements in 999 batches, memory for up to 100 custom calibrations, Software and wireless data transfer included.

byko-test MPOR
The byko-test MP0R allows quick and easy measure- ments of coatings thickness on ferrous and non-ferrous substrates. The instrument automatically identifies on which kind of substrate the measurement is carried out and selects the appropriate test method accordingly. The instrument is designed for one-hand operation. An integrated spring guarantees a constant pressure of the probe to the sample´s surface. The instrument comes with an integrated radio transmitter for wireless transmission of the measured values directly to a PC, the optional radio receiver and software is necessary. byko-test MP0R:
Compact size instrument
Illuminated display
Statistic function, min., max., mean, std. dev.
Two displays for easy view of measurement results Magnetic-induction Fe-sensor particularly suitable for the automotive industry
Large memory stores up to 999 values
Indicator LED for pass/fail

Non-destructive Film Thickness measurement on plastic surfaces
The thickness of the coating or ink film on plastic surfaces can normally only be measured through a destructive dry film thickness test.
( V-shaped cut coat thickness measurement DIN EN ISO 2409 )

The procedure:
Non-destructive dry film thickness measurement with RVG3 foil:

1. Place one or more RVG3 foil on the surface before printing, lacquering or painting
2. Secure the foil with adhesive tape ( Sello , Tesa- , Masking tapes)
3. If you use a multi-layer coating system (i.e. primer + basic+ topcoat) it is advisable to apply an identifying sign for the foils
4. Carry out the coating in the usual way
5. If you use a multi-colour or multi-layer coating system, it is advisable to remove the test foils after the application of each layer
6. After coating:
Foil No.1: you can measure the thickness of the primer
Foil No.2: you can measure the thickness of the basic
Foil No.3: you can measure the thickness of the topcoat and the whole coat thickness
7. You can measure the coat thickness of each layer with a conventional, electronic type gages thickness measurement instrument (i.e. MPOR )
7.1 Measure thickness of the uncoated foil
(i.e. 90 µm)
7.2 Measure the thickness of the foil with coating
(i.e. 115 µm)
7.3 Subtract the thickness of the uncoated foil
(115- 90 µm)
7.4 You get the thickness of the coating: 25 µm

If you apply a thickness measurement instrument (MPOR), which is able to store the thickness of the uncoated foil in its memory and automatically subtract it from the measured value, the thickness of the coating will appear on the display immediately after the second measurement

Features of the RVG foils:
Material: plastic (polyester)
Surface: matt (structured as most plastic surfaces)
Temperature resistance: 250-300oC
Thickness: 90±2 µm

Film thickness measurement instrument: MPOR
Measuring range: 0 – 2000 µm
Accuracy: ±0,5 µm 0-50µm
±1 % 50-100µm
±1,5% 100-2.000µm

Uncertainty of whole measurement system: ±2 - 3 µm by 0-100µm coat thickness
